Skin and Bone

Lectio Divina in Proverbs 12:27

Silence: Relax and hear the Spirit

Meditation: Use the skin and the bone.

Prayer: I am satified with what You've already given .

Lectio: The lazy man does not roast his game, but the diligent man prizes his possessions.

Contemplation: A hunter's possessions are made of skin and bone.

Oration: Hunters get up early, sit in disciplined silence, kill and drag game home.  Finding something to kill and eat is difficult.  Dropping and dragging the game isn't however enough.  After the stalk, kill and transport, there is still work to be done: roasting the game.

Roasting game serves to preserve and prepare the meat.  Smoke from a fire preserves meat and fire's heat prepares the meat for consumption.  Maximizing the kill is a race against the clock.  Bugs, buzzards and bacteria know a lazy man does not roast his game.  Roasting game uncovers possibilities beyond the kill.

Skin and bone bring possibilities beyond the kill: tools, clothes, floor coverings, weapons, art.  The diligent man prizes the potential few see in the kill.  Yes there's meat but there are also possessions if he'll work.

Incarnation:  Let go of the pride of what I've already done; the kill and drag.  Instead focus on what remains undone; maximizing skin and bone.  Find skin and bone to refine in myself, marriage, parenthood and professional pursuits.  I've been made a hunter but need to choose diligence over laziness.
