Lectio Divina: Psalm 127:2

09May10 @ 0601

 Silencio:

Meditatio: What's in my trunk?

  1. Used backpack - donate
  2. Recyclable shopping bags - keep
  3. Spare tire - needs WD-40 to loosen screw
  4. Golf clubs - am playing today...in the rain
  5. Fishing poles - May 19 with 1000 Days
Prayer: Thank You for your gift of rest in the Word.

Lectio: ...for God gives rest to his loved ones. ~ Ps 127:2(b)

Contemplatio: We are free to accept /reject God's gifts to us.  Give and gift appear twice: first associated with rest and next associated with children.  Twenty first century professionals get little rest and wait longer and longer to have children.

Oration: Yesterday I met a 56 year old Michigan State University professor with an infant daughter.  He had just returned from a week in Colorado, had mowed the grass earlier and was mustering his way through a violin recital.  He said he was tired.

We often choose not to take God's rest.  Perhaps it's because the rest comes with a price.  I am called in the text to give up burning the candle at both ends, my anxiety, my oversized appetite and the pride of a job well done.

Incarnation: Accept the rest God gives to His loved ones.
