Psalm 127:1 - A Forgotten Architect

30Sep08

Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is useless. ~ Psalm 127: 1(a)

Those who view a house, admiring the symmetry and balance, may associate the beauty with those living in the house.  The beauty should however be attributed to the architect.

Those living in the house fill it with art and food and family.  None of these things last longer than the house itself.  Several families may fill the same well-designed houses from generation to generation.

Those occupying the house rarely know who designed what is so richly enjoyed.  The architect's labor is relegated to obscurity.  Her unseen work results in the seen brick and mortar.

Your workmanship is marvelous - and how well I know it.  You watched me a s I was being formed, in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.                           ~ Ps 139:14(b)-15
the Psalm-writer knows his frame, so appreciated and admired, began with unseen work in the womb. God's work, like the architect's, is obscurely initiated and publicly appreciated.
