Psalm 127: Hand in Hand

07Oct08

"Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders in useless." ~ Psalm 127:1

A builder of any substance has to follow the plans.  Architects produce the plans.  To become an architect, people education, experience, examination and licensing.  Each step a builder and architect take together affects the trust between them.

If an architect commits to a good team, builders learn to depend on that architect.  Each project is an opportunity to confirm or disprove beliefs about the architect and firm.  Trust over time can be established between architects and builders; they put faith in one another.

Faith is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.  An architectural rendering is evidence of a building we cannot yet see.  Builders change the unseen into the seen.  As architects and builders work hand in hand, so do people work in tandem with God.

Creator is Creation's architect.  A creature of any substance follows a Creator's plan.  Psalm 127 leads me to consider God as the planner / architect who's renderings are to be followed by a team of builders.  The builders have an understanding of materials and how plans are supposed to look.  They use the documents and asks questions along the way.

The house however is not a house until the builders begin, continue and complete.  It takes builders and a planner to make an unseen house, seen.

are brought through apprenticeships.  First and basic tasks are assigned to dilettantes. The life of faith is spent in action based on what is believed to be true.
