In This Way: Consistent Innovation
Joseph had a dream and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. He said to them, "Listen to this dream I had..."
~ Genesis 37: 5-6
Observations:
~ Genesis 37: 5-6
Observations:
- Joseph started by telling his dreams to other people
- He morphed by beginning to tell other people about their dreams
- Changed from prophecy to interpretation
- His dreams and others' dreams came from God
- Joseph focused less on his visions and more on others
- after he's sold into slavery, we don't hear anymore of his dreams
- unlikely that he stopped dreaming
- if he was still dreaming, he held his peace
- Joseph interpreted dreams as an innovation
- other way wasn't working so well
- none of his listeners cared more about his pain than their own
- baker
- wine taster
- Pharaoh
- all were speaking to a man falsely accused and imprisoned
Applications:
- Nobody cares about my pain as much as they care about their pain
- Be a listener
- Say less and do more with dreams / visions I've been given
- Write more than I speak
- Morphing in ministry is as natural as season changing
- A career can shift on turning points
- Joseph : shepherding :: Alex : health administration
- Joseph : assistance (Potipher, jailer, Pharaoh) :: Alex : congregational leadership
- Joseph : disaster / famine response :: Alex : real estate
- Jealousy is a thing
- Not everyone is your friend; naivete might mean you don't come home
Prayer: Thank You for reintroducing Joseph as I age. He had iterations on his journey and they're helping me see it's OK to try something new. Innovation is an opportunity not a threat and I'm trusting You as I morph.
We're given many gifts from the Lord and our proclivity to pursue one field for several decades may be a man made construct for various reasons.
