Reflection on Psalm 127:1
Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. ~ Psalm 127:1
A building that is raised correctly is built twice.
First an architect designs the building by drawing it to scale. Then builders follow the architect's plans as they deal with brick and mortar. An architect without builders is working to fill a library / archive with paper. A builder without an architect is working to build monuments testifying to misguidedness. Each one needs the other to build a house correctly.
The Lord is the architect. His designs are sufficient. We are the builders. Our labor should be guided by God's design, even as we deal with clay on clay as clay.
Raising house is a risky venture. People are hurt, money is wasted and timelines are missed. Yet the more we do the work, the better we do the work. Repetition brings us back to the Lord over and over again. There is no building without the builder.
Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.
