Lectio Divina, Ps. 127: How to build a business

07Oct09

Unless the Lord builds the house, the work of the builders is useless. (Ps 127:1)

If the Lord is building our house we have a role to play as builders. God designs and provides the plans. We follow the plans in the sun, mud, rain and physicality. While our preoccupation is the house and all we hope to experience within that house, God is preoccupied with us.

We think about fillng a house with things but God thinks about filling us with himself. Houses are perennially destroyed if no occupant has the sense to care for the house.

Proverbs 24:27 states we should, "develop our business first for building our house." The business also comes from God because the business should be associated with our life's calling. God calls us to a lifetime pursuit of godly purposes. As we pursue purpose we find provision.

The provision from God allows our business to be developed. The development of the business to which God has called us allows us to build the house. The house is both spiritual and physical. Isaiah 65:21 ties the work / business and the house together. As Christians our bodies and our bricks must glorify God.

Unless the Lord builds the house, the work on the builders is in vain.

  1. While reading this blog, I thought about the verse in Matthew which reminds us to "seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto you. "
